Markets: Aptos
Products: All products are certified organic: meats, Valencia oranges, orange juice and avocados. The 100% grass-fed meats include lamb, goat and beef, raised without the use of antibiotics or hormones. Meat from grass-fed animals is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids or “good, heart healthy, fats.” In addition, grass-fed meat contains higher levers of beta-carotenes and vitamin E along with conjugated linoleic acids, or CLA, known as a cancer fighting fat. Lower in fat, cholesterol, and calories, grass-fed meat has a rich, natural flavor.
History/Philosophy: Old Creek Ranch is guided by the philosophy of “production in harmony with nature.” Their goal is to produce wholesome, flavorful food, using methods that are in total harmony with nature. Cattle, sheep, and goats are rotated across their range in a manner designed to mimic the beneficial impact of wild grazers. They encourage plant, animal, and insect diversity in their orchards and rangeland to build soil health and fertility, while reducing opportunity for pests. They use no chemical or artificial fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides or growth stimulants on land, plants or livestock and all foods are certified organic.
Old Creek Farm has been farmed for three generations for almost 50 years. When the ranch was first bought in 1949, it was a dairy farm. Soon Bob Senior planted the first commercial citrus grove in San Luis Obispo County and then added avocados, followed by beef cattle, sheep, goats and chickens.
Farmland: Old Creek Ranch is nestled in the hills behind the small coastal town of Cayucos in San Luis Obispo County.
