Products: Extra virgin olive oil (two Spanish varieties made from Mission and Arbequina olives), fresh olives and cured olives. The Arbequina extra virgin olive oil won Best of Show, Best of Class, and Gold Medal at the 2007 Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition. According to Maria, Mission is a buttery tasting olive oil, and Arbequina has more of a grassy, artichoke-y flavor.

History/Philosophy: SAVOR is a family owned business that is run in a sustainable manner. Maria and Bob purchased the land in 1989. They decided to plant olive trees in 2001 because they knew that they would do well in their Mediterranean climate and because the beautiful trees are drought tolerant.

Maria and Bob take great pride in what they produce. Together they manage the grove to ensure the trees are healthy; they monitor extensively for fruit fly, keep the fly traps set, and spray on a timely basis. When their children are home from school, they like to help Maria at the farmers market.

What the Weinerths like best about what they do is that they produce a product that is good for you. Their goal is to provide you with the best quality California olive oil that is guaranteed to be extra virgin, and fresh olives for those who wish to process their own olives.

Farmland: The 6.5 acre farm is located in beautiful southern Monterey County by Lake San Antonio and Lake Nacimiento, overlooking the majestic Santa Lucia Mountains. The weather is warm in the summer and mild in the winter, very conducive to growing olive trees.

Weed Control: tractor, hoes

Pest Management: the sole pest control is for the Olive Fruit Fly and the following is used: GF-120 Natural, SPINOSAD.

Water Use: Drip irrigation to ensure the trees get adequate watering during fruit set.

Workers: One part-time worker.
