MBCFM > Market News > Monterey Farmers Market Opens at New Location!

After a long and arduous week, we are pleased to announce that the Monterey Farmers Market (formerly held at Monterey Peninsula College) will be moved to the Del Monte Shopping Center in front of Chipotle and Starbucks in the parking lot. We will be reopening this coming Friday, March 27 from 9am until 2pm. The farmers market hours have been extended so that we can safely accommodate everyone.

We’d like to thank Karla Corres, the property coordinator at Del Monte Shopping Center, for working closely (and tirelessly!) with us to reopen the farmers markets for our Monterey and Carmel customers during this stressful time. It is no easy task to move a market due to the permits required, insurance, and detailed logistics.

The Del Monte Shopping Center is located at 1410 Del Monte Center, in Monterey. We will be located in Parking Lot I (please see map below).

At this time, only farmers will be allowed to participate at the Monterey Farmers Market per the Monterey Health Department.

Here are the new changes and guidelines everyone must follow while at the farmers market:

  • Hand sanitizer will be available at the information booth and scattered around the market.
  • Hand washing stations are also scattered around the market.
  • There will be NO sampling at the markets at this time.
  • All music, demonstrations, kid activities, etc. are suspended until further notice.
  • Farmers will be wearing gloves and reconfiguring their stall space to accommodate appropriate distancing — respect it please.
  • Some stands have one person taking money, the other bagging up your purchase. They may also offer the point and purchase option. Others may have signs in the stalls “You touch it, you buy it!”
  • Some farmers offer pre-bagged produce, so all you have to do is “grab and GO!”
  • We love seeing you, but once you have made your purchases, go—leave and do not linger.
  • We ask that you keep a 6-foot distance from other customers while purchasing. There will be tape or chalk markings for spacing by some of the stands, look for them.
  • Please wash your produce when you get it home.
  • The Monterey Farmers Market will be held at the Del Monte Shopping Center until further notice.

Thank you for your patience. We know everyone is experiencing a lot of anxiety and there has been much confusion as we acclimate to this new reality. We will keep our social media and website updated as soon as we know of any changes. This is a fluid situation and we must comply with our local health department and state mandates. We will do our utmost to keep everyone informed if there is another closure.

We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve our farmers market customers. And, thank you for supporting our California family farmers!
