As we approach the holiday season, we’re reminded how fortunate we are to live in a community that truly cares for one another. For nearly fifty years, the Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Markets have thrived thanks to the steadfast support of our Santa Cruz County and Monterey County neighbors. Together, we’ve grown not just a farmers market, but a family — one that values good food, hard work, and compassion.
With your support, our markets have been able to give back in meaningful ways. Over the years, we’ve provided free space for local non-profits and school groups, and extended support to community organizations including Loaves and Fishes, The Salvation Army, Second Harvest, and Watsonville Community Hospital Food Pantry. Each week, we also contribute to a local school food program, helping fill funding gaps and nourish our next generation.
Yet we also know that for many, this is an especially difficult time. Food insecurity has become a growing concern across our region, affecting seniors, families, and individuals who may struggle to afford fresh, healthy food. Thanks to the generosity of our customers, our SNAP Market Match program continues to make a real difference — ensuring everyone can enjoy the bounty of our local farms.
We are especially grateful to longtime market customer Maureen Wilmot, whose generous contribution this season helps ensure that families in need will continue to have access to fresh, wholesome food. Her kindness reflects the very best of our community spirit — neighbors helping neighbors.
If you would like to help, you can make a donation at our information booth — every dollar goes directly toward sustaining the SNAP program and supporting access to local food for those who need it most. Contributions can be made by cash, debit, or credit card, and every bit helps strengthen the fabric of our community.
As we celebrate this season — and look ahead to the 50th anniversary of the Aptos Farmers Market next year — we offer our heartfelt thanks to you, our customers and friends, for helping us make a difference. Together, we’re not just feeding families. We’re building a healthier, more connected community — one market day at a time.
