Chef Andrew Cohen

From Market to Table cooking demonstrations at the Aptos Farmers Market will feature professional chefs, caterers, and cookbook authors who will provide seasonal cooking demonstrations using locally grown seasonal produce. The cooking events will be the second Saturday of each month, from May through September, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Our first guest chef will be Chef Andrew Cohen.

Meet Chef Andrew Cohen, Chef in Residence
Chef Andrew Cohen is almost legendary around here, having been an avid supporter of the farmers markets long before farmers markets became ‘a thing.’ Andrew exemplifies the caliber of chef we have here in our neighborhood, with a culinary career that spans over 35 years. A graduate of the esteemed California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Andrew interned at Chez Panisse with chef and restaurant owner Alice Waters.

Andrew’s chef career included working locally at India Joze, The Verandah, and Theo’s, all exceptional restaurants in their heyday. These and other notable restaurants provided the opportunity for him to experiment and broaden his repertoire. Andrew was also chef-owner at Surf Sushi, where his outstanding sushi skills were a focal point; some of his unique creations are still on sushi menus today.

Andrew serves as Chef in Residence for the Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Markets and is well-known amongst market shoppers for his broad knowledge about unusual fruits or vegetables and generous suggestions for cooking them. He has contributed numerous articles and recipes for the market’s companion website, Edible Paradise. Additionally, he wrote over 1,000 recipes for High Ground Organics farm (in Watsonville) for several years.

Currently, Andrew describes his latest work as ‘bottle-jockey and chief recipe wrangler’ for Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard, where he pairs recipes with wines for wine club releases and tastings. Andrew’s newest recipes are focused on healthier eating and updated cooking techniques.

Seating is limited, so please arrive early to get a seat. Demonstrated recipes will be available at EdibleParadise.com.
