The news of long-time farmers market vendors La Marea of the Sea opening a new restaurant in April spread like hot salsa among their legion of customers. Rudy and Maria Figueroa and family’s new bricks and mortar venue was a major achievement for the family that began years earlier.
“I originally learned about food from my grandmother,” Rudy shared. “Then in about 1991, during my first visit to the Cabrillo market, I met Bill the Oysterman and soon began to help him at the Aptos Farmers Market, shucking oysters and taking care of customers.” The opportunity arrived for Rudy and his wife Maria to become vendors, and the rest is history.
La Marea is a regular stop for many farmers market shoppers. Serving up fresh oysters and Mexican seafood dishes such as ceviche tostadas and grilled-to-perfection shrimp tacos using tortillas made fresh, right on the spot, few can resist a delicious snack at the market! Their immense popularity has grown steadily over the past 20 years, so when the opportunity came to take over a space at the Five Mile House center in Corralitos, Rudy and Maria jumped at it. Their delicious fresh seafood dishes are now available for dine-in or carry-out. An outdoor seating area is also available on the patio.
La Marea of the Sea restaurant is located at 2904 A Freedom Boulevard in Corralitos (across from Aladdin’s Nursery). Currently, they are open Sunday to Wednesday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. They are closed Thursdays. New extended summer hours are anticipated, so stay tuned.
